This is a Hard Port Beris Loose Ring horse bit which allows for tongue mobility without losing effectiveness.

An unjointed bit/straight bit often works sharper than a single or double-jointed mouthpiece. The shape of the mouthpiece determines the pressure in the mouth. Straighter and thicker mouthpieces produce more pressure on the tongue.
This straight, flexible mouthpiece with tongue port gives more pressure on the layers and keeps the tongue free allowing for strong control/pressure when necessary but tongue freedom when resting.
